Community awareness & prevention program

During a class talk for Grade 6's one child started crying.  The CAPP Social Worker called the child aside after the talk, and she disclosed that she had been sexually abused by a man in her community.   She described in detail what had happened and said that although she had felt angry and uncomfortable, she had not known that it was abuse, and so had never reported the matter.  The Social worker counselled and contained the child, and was able to obtain her mother’s contact details.  Immediate follow-up was done and the child’s mother was very cooperative.  She took her child for a medical assessment, opened a case, and the man was arrested.  Once he was arrested, more children in the community came forward to disclose.  The child has been referred to our Clinical Social Worker for therapy.
